Nelspruit Operations

Raw water is abstracted from the Crocodile River through a raw water canal.

The water purification works has a designed treatment capacity of 45 MLD.  An average of 38 MLD is currently purified. There are a total of 20 elevated reservoirs in town with a total holding capacity of 55,295m3. All the reservoirs are controlled by a telemetric system. The town is divided in 12 zones and water is distributed through 266km pipeline. There are 19 booster pump stations throughout the distribution system that is monitored by a telemetric system.  

Due to the topography, pressures in the network are controlled by use of pressure control valves. There are currently 56 pressure control valves in Nelspruit.

There are 244km waterborne sewage lines throughout Nelspruit with 22 sewage pump stations. Sewage is treated at the Kingstonvale Sewer Treatment works situated 7km outside of Nelspruit.
