The purpose of this project is to supply additional capacity in the main outfall sewer of Mbombela (Northern Outfall Sewer) to accommodate the additional sewerage flow generated as result of the sewer reticulation of the Mataffin Precinct. The development of the stadium came the bulk services and a project was initiated to install water borne sewer system for the Matsafeni Village. This is eight (8) water and sanitation project related to the 2010 World Cup Stadium Infrastructure.

The scope of work for the intended upgrade

Section A
A 530m long section of 600mm diameter parallel pipeline.  From MH01-MH09. The above ground sections will be constructed with a Ductile Iron on reinforced concrete columns and the below ground sections being HDPE.

Section B
A 455m long section of 600mm diameter pipeline. From MH09-MH18, to be constructed northern side of the raw water canals. The entire length will be above ground ductile iron pipe.

Section C
A 287m long section of a 600mm diameter pipeline from MH125-MH131 below and above ground.
